  • John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award

UK DAIRY EXPO HONOURS INDUSTRY LEGEND FOR THE 2nd YEAR

Borderway UK Dairy Expo will see the return of The John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award.  This award in memory of the lifelong long industry contribution made by Cumbrian dairy farmer John Dennison, aims to recognise the dairy cattle breeder or exhibitor judged to be a high achiever and exemplary role model. Nominations for the prize close on the 1st February 2014 and will be judged by a panel of leading figures involved in pedigree dairy cattle breeding.

This special prize will be given to the nominee judged to have the perfect combination of ability, sportsmanship, integrity and character within the Dairy Industry. The winner will be announced and presented with their award at the Borderway UK Dairy Expo on March 8th 2014.

John Dennison who farmed at Scales Park Farm in Ulverston was highly regarded in the industry as the breeder of the Denmire Holstein Herd on the 1000 acre family farm in Cumbria. John was a highly respected pedigree breeder, judge and showman as well as his promotion of the Holstein breed he was also a great encouragement of the younger generation of Holstein breeders.  Following his sad death in 2012 and out of deep respect for his contribution to the dairy industry Harrison and Hetherington felt it appropriate that this prestigious award would be graced by his name.

Last year’s inaugural winner was Mike Miller of Shanael Holsteins, near Evesham in Worcestershire, who has bred and shown National Champions. He won the award for the huge help he has given to a generation of young breeders.

    Presentation to Mike Miller

Mike explains what this award meant to him: “I had no idea, and it left me a bit speechless. I had known John for many years and along with most of the dairy community we were so sad to hear of his loss. To receive the award last year was a real honour and tribute.”

Anyone wishing to forward a nomination should send a brief resumé on the nominee by 5th February 2014 to the John Dennison Achievement Award, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd., Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle CA1 2RS.

The 3rd Borderway UK Dairy Expo will be held at the Borderway Exhibition Centre in Carlisle on Saturday 8th March 2014. The show case for the UK dairy cattle industry includes Champion Cattle Classes, the International Dairy Youth Championships, and a trade exhibition.
