“ROCKAFELLA TOPS THE CHARTS”
The annual Spring Dairy Bull Show & Sale held at Borderway, Carlisle on behalf of the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club had a world class line up of exceptional bulls bred from the best Pedigree herds in the UK. Trade topped at 5,000gns twice to average just over £2700. Twenty two bulls sold for more than three thousand pounds with eight selling for four thousand or more.
Commenting on the sale Glyn Lucas from Harrison & Hetherington said “…the breeders must be congratulated today for consigning such high quality bulls. Buyers had a great choice with bulls bred from many of the best cows in the UK and all with impeccable pedigrees; it is worth noting the bulls with outcross pedigrees were in high demand.”
Andrew Hull owner of the prize winning Fortland Holstein herd judged the show in the morning and commenting after awarding his Champions said “…I was really impressed with the standard of the bulls today. I was looking for dairy bulls that combined strength and power and had excellent locomotion and the overall Champion excelled in all these traits”
The show was sponsored by Coomara Veterinary Practice with the Overall Champion going to Warnelview Rockafella consigned by Kevin & Christine Wilson from Wood Farm, Carlisle. He was sired by Peak LC AltaCordial and bred from Warleview Saloon Ruby an Excellent 93 pointed cow with massive production. Rockafella sold for 4,500gns to M&C Davies from Pembrokeshire.
The Reserve Champion went to Winton Beaten consigned by Peter Waring from the Winton herd. He was sired by Westcoast Perseus and bred from eight generations of Excellent dams. He sold for 3,500gns to Drumchapel Estates in Fife.
Topping the trade was Gerrard Class Act consigned by Andrew Carter from Wigton, he was sired by Oconnors Lotta Class and bred from an Excellent 94 dam with over 80 ton lifetime. This stylish class winner sold for 5,000gns to the Meredith family from Aberdeen.
