FLO ATTRACTS TOP BIDS AT BORDERWAY
63 ANIMALS SELL FOR OR MORE THAN £2000
One of the best groups of cows and heifers ever offered in the Border & Lakeland club sale were sold at Borderway in front of an astute ring of buyers and over 100 internet bidders. The breeders who made this sale so special must be congratulated on breeding such high quality and buyers know that this event offers the very best value for money.
From start to finish the sale had outstanding animals all producing large volumes of milk with several consignments bred from pedigrees that would grace the most elite sales in Europe. Trade topped at 4,400gns to average £2139 per life with 63 animals selling for £2000 or above. It is worth noting that the live internet bidding continues to play a vital role in our dairy trade with almost 50% of the lots bought online. Buyers from all the home nations took part with buyers list featuring eighteen counties.
Topping the sale at 4,400gns was Berryholme Lambda Flo consigned by David & Francis Wright from Lancaster. Flo had attracted much interest prior to the event, she was sired by the exciting sire Delta-Lambda and bred from eight generation of dams to classify Excellent or Very Good from the famous Flo cow family. Two national Grand Champions appeared in her pedigree and she was final won by Euan & Andrew Lawrie from the Grangehall herd in Lanark following some competitive bidding.
Another Flo heifer by the same sire and from the Berryholme herd sold for 3,000gns to Baltier Farming. She was bred from a slightly different line of the family, still featuring two national Grand Champion with the third dam being full sister to Shottle Flo the 2010 National Champion. The three beautiful uddered heifers from Berryholme averaged almost £3,500.
Warnelview Holsteins sold three very productive heifers all from their top cow families to average £2,222 and topped at 2,500gns for Warnelview Control Glenys who was giving 40kgs and bred from four Excellent dams. She was purchased by Mr. Marshall from the Marshall Holstein herd near Carmarthen.
The Brewster family from Glasgow owners of the prize winning Boclair Holstein herd sold five heifers topping at 2,500gns to average almost £2,300. Topping this consignment was Boclair Unix Hope, a classy stylish heifer bred from the 2015 All Britain winner Boclair Sid Hope EX94 who was Reserve Champion twice at the Royal Highland Show. She was purchased by Mr McGregor from Ayrshire.
Another heifer to sell for 2,500gns was Stowbeck Lineman Lillibet consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms near Penrith. She was an udder that flirted with perfection and was bred from an Excellent 94 Durham Ross dam. She was purchased by Mr McCulloch from near Stranraer. Fourteen cows and heifers from the Stowbeck herd averaged £2141.
Brian and Michael Yates sold twelve cows and heifers to top at 2,500gns for Eastford Unix Tabitha sired by top type sire Unix. She has classified Good Plus 84 2yr the day prior to the sale with her dam scoring Excellent 91, her third dam was the Royal Highland Supreme Champion in 2014, Dilandy Debonair Tabitha Red. Tabitha was purchased by the Robinson family from near Hexham. This impressive consignment averaged £2283.
Ayrshires topped at 2,250gns for Cuthill Towers Magic Ray consigned by the Lawrie family. Ray was sired by Magican and her grand dam was Cuthill Towers Rader Ray EX94 was the National Champion in 2015. Ray was purchased by Mr Stewart from N. Ireland.
The Ayrshire Champion Cow of the Decade was won by Changue Martha 49 EX95 who is owned by the Mungo Byrson from Whiteflat Farm in Ayrshire. Her son by Whitecroft Furtado sold for 2,000gns to the Mr Jones form Dumfries. His maternal brother sold in last years sale for 4,400gns.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Saturday 2nd August and features the dispersal sale of the Foveran herd. This sale will feature almost over 200 animals including all the youngstock.
