Alston Moor sale of Mule Gimmer Lambs

On Wednesday 3rd October 2012 Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual Alston Moor sale of 18,652 Mule Gimmer lambs within Lazonby Mart.

The judging of this eagerly anticipated event took place on the previous evening where an outstanding entry of 25 pens of NEMSA lambs came forward for judges Mr Chris Hunt, Mrs Alice Cook and Ms Kay Thompson to cast their expert eye over, Mr Bill Skelton acted as referee.  After much deliberation the William Armstrong Memorial cup and Champion rosette was awarded to Messrs Thompson, East Unthank with a fantastic pen of lambs.

 

The show was sponsored by Dodd & Co, Shearwell Data, LA Livestock Scanning, Lloyd, Aspatria Farmer, Carr’s Billington, Harbro, AW Jenkinson Forest Products and H & H Insurance Brokers.

1st & winning the William Armstrong Memorial Cup

2nd       J Lee Morley Hill – £270 to FG Marshall

3rd       J Lee, Morley Hill – £190 to W & S Kerr

4th        T Bowman, Brampton Fell – £140 to RA Cure

5th        J Reed, The Knarr – £150 to W & G Tweedie

6th        GR Wharton & Son, Keisley – £175 to AJ Geary

 

The Jonty Stalker Memorial Trophy was awarded to the best consignment of 60 or more lambs.  This was judged by Mr Roly Hayton who awarded the prizes to Messrs Wallace, Farney Shields.

 

The sale its self was a resounding success with many new faces round the ringside joining the usual loyal following of buyers at this ted fixture.  Top price of the day was £360 from Messes Wallace, Farney Shields these were secured by Eddie Bullman. 

 

The overall sale average was £114.08 which shows a rise of £18 on the year, with running lambs meeting a phemenal demand, making the tupping lambs look value in comparison.  Every vendor catalogued was present with each and everyone rewarded for their loyalty.
