The Belted Galloway Society spring show & sale held at Carlisle on Friday saw a top price of 3400gns achieved for the Overall Champion Woodhall Johnny from first time exhibitors Messrs GR Bell. Johnny is sired by Ballyharvey Rob and out of Offthewall Cymene. He was purchased by J & YR Hopkins from Highbridge, Somerset.
Two bulls sold for 2000gns, the first of these was the first bull into the ring Beanley Freddie from A & J Thomson. This March 2014 born bull was bred by Hedgeley Farms and sired by Polbae Abel, he has been used in the Thomson’s Stafford herd and was only for sale due to coming back on to his own stock. The successful bidder on this occasion was AMR Wainwright & Son from Sproxton, York.
H & N Sloan’s homebred Burnfoot Kylo was the other bull to sell for the same money. Sired by Park Horato and out of Muil Ruby this bull had won 2nd prize in the pre-sale show and was purchased by NA & K Temple from Broughton in Furness.
In the unled female section NA Thompson’s heifer Maybeck Grace sold with her January born heifer calf at foot Maybeck India for the top price of 1380gns.
