Annual Show and Sale of Ewes and Hoggs with Lambs at Foot

At Borderway Mart on Monday 14th May, Harrison & Hetherington held their annual show and sale of shearling & hoggs with lambs at foot.

A very large show of 1436 sheep were offered seeing a very selective trade. The pre sale show was of extremely high standard with a strong entry forward for every class. The judge Mr James Musgrave, Cardew Hall had a very difficult job but awarded the Harry Fisher Memorial Cup to Mr Brough, Langfauld Farm, Wigton for the Champion pen of 5 Beltex X Shearlings with 7 Beltex Lambs at foot which later went on to sell for an exceptional price of £158 a life. The reserve rosette was later awarded to the first prize continental hoggs with lambs from M/s Whiteford, Tercrossett, Brampton which topped at £124 a life.

A large bonny show of mule hoggs were forward, with mule been in very high demand. The first prize and the Ernie Nixon Memorial trophy was awarded to an outstanding pen of Hoggs forward by William Horsley, Woodhouse, Penrith peaking at £108 a life.
