The inaugural Badger Face Texel Sale took place at Carlisle on Saturday and saw a top price of 6000gns achieved for a shearling gimmer. This was Ingst Olympia consigned by John Harding. Olympia has had a successful show season which included winning Reserve Female Champion at the Royal Welsh Show. She was sired by the imported Ingst 8503-8209 and purchased on the day by Messrs Lockyer from Highbridge, Somerset.
Stuart Wood sold a shearling gimmer for 2800gns, this was Woodies Zara sired by a Hackney ram and out of an imported dam. Zara was purchased by Messrs Tippetts, Shifnal, Shropshire.
The two remaining shearling gimmers forward both sold for 1000gns, these were both from Stuart Wood, sired by Turbo Blues Breda and out of imported dams. Messrs Davies from Newtown, Powys was the successful bidder on both occasions.
Messrs Davies also purchased two aged ewes from Henry Jewitt’s Sunnybank flock, the first at 1000gns and the second for 800gns. These were both 2015 born ewes that had been imported from Holland by Henry.
Best of the ewe lambs was Greystone Annabell from Messrs McLaren and Baird who sold for 800gns to Messrs Davidson, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire.
Rams also topped at 800gns for Clive Richardson’s imported Cleenagh Hugo Boss sired by a Woodies ram. He was purchased by Messrs Smith from Moreton In Marsh, Gloucestershire.
