The Beef Shorthorn Society Spring sale at Carlisle was held in the form of an Online Timed Auction due to the current Covid-19 situation.
Two bulls sold for the top price of £3600. The first of these was Mrs L Townsend’s bull Coxhill Monty. Monty was sired by Ballylinney Glenn, out of Ballylinney Flower 23rd and his half brother Coxhill Magnum sold for 20,000gns at Stirling in February this year. Monty was purchased by Faughhill Farming based in Roxburghshire.
Monopoly of Upsall from Gerald Turton was other bull to sell for the same money. Monopoly was sired by Hotspur of Upsall and out of Gem X802 or Upsall. The successful purchaser on this occasion was Messrs Crawley from Arundel, West Sussex.
Jack Ramsay’s Millerston Majestic sold for £3200 to Messrs Proctor from Kirkby Stephen. Majestic was sired by the consistent breeding bull Meonhill Charlie Chaplin and out of Millerston Augusta Foxy, one of the best cows in the Millerston herd who was successful in the show ring as a heifer.
Mrs Townsend also sold Coxhill Magic for £3200. Magic was sired by Glengloy Callum and out of Ballylinney Josie 15th. He was purchased by Messrs Howatson from Lockerbie.
Best of the females at £2800 was HW Marigold from Ian Tennant. This heifer, originally bred by Highland Wagyu, was sold in calf to Hyndford Lorenzo. Marigold herself was sired by Caramba Hush and out of Marigold X947 of Upsall.
