The Belted Galloway Society Spring show & sale held at Carlisle on Saturday saw bulls sell to a top of 1800gns twice.
Both bulls were consigned by N Richardson of the Fernyford herd and both sired by Barwise Christo. First to go through the ring was the 2nd prize winning Fernyford Nimrod who was out of Fernyfold Emelia and purchased by Messrs Brayne from Bamford, Hope Valley.
Nimrod was followed by Neptune who had won 3rd prize in his class at the pre-sale show and was out of Fernyford Hazel. Neptune was purchased by Messrs Robson from Ivegill, Carlisle.
Selling at 1700gns was Burnfoot Levi from H & N Sloan’s Lauder based herd. Levi, sired by Park Horatio and out of Burnfoot Fern, was purchased on the day by Urra Estate, Chop Gate, North Yorkshire.
Females sold to 1600gns for the 1st prize winning heifer and Overall Champion Brightenflatt Fort Myers from James Bell’s herd. Fort Myers who was born in March 2017 was sired by Coulmony Ronald and out of Clifton Cowslip and she was heading to Northern Ireland after being purchased by Messrs Irvine from Ballymena.
H & N Sloan’s Burnfoot herd was responsible for the next best heifer, Burnfoot Lottie who sold for 1550gns. Lottie was sired by Park Horatio and out of Burnfoot Gabby and she was bought by Messrs Hall from Settle.
The same purchaser bought another heifer Brightenflatt Frisco consigned by James Bell for 1300gns. This heifer was another to be sired by Coulmony Ronald.
NA Thompson from Whitby sold a homebred cow with calf at foot for 1400gns. 2016 born Maybeck Hemp was sired by Whitecross Twix and her heifer calf Maybeck Kess by Auchengassel Kaiser Chief. This unit was purchased by B Rae Farming Ltd from Hawick.
