Beltex Crackers Female Sale

The second Annual Beltex Crackers female sale was made up of eight noted breeders, namely – Headlind Flock (Allan Jackson), Jewitt Flock (Henry Jewitt), Matts Flock (Matthew Burleigh), Tiptop Flock (Ali Jackson), Withy Trees Flock (Andrew Wood), Orkney Flock (AV & C Copland), Cothi Flock (D Lewis) and Rathbone Flock (MR & JE Davis).

Topping the sale for the second year was Andrew Wood’s Withy Trees flock who sold Withy Trees Copper Mountain for 5000gns. This gimmer was sired by 25,000gns Broxty Boxer and out of Hudley Slip Knot who was purchased by the flock in 2013. She had been scanned in lamb to Cree Action Man who was purchased for 13,000gns. The successful purchaser of these gimmer was Harvey Farms from Duns, Berwickshire.

The Withy Trees flock averaged £1762 for their seven gimmers sold and had a further two at 2000gns or more.  At 2700gns was Withy Trees Cleco also by Broxty Boxer and this time out of the flock’s 2016 show ewe Tercrosset Sunshine she was purchased by Messrs Beacom, Northern Ireland.

The best of the ewe lambs came from Matthew Burleigh’s Matt’s flock who topped this section at 3500gns with the Hackney Corker daughter Matt’s Daisy who was purchased by Messrs Bowring, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

The same buyer also purchased a shearling gimmer from Matthew, Matt’s Claire sired by Hackney Wonderboy was a member of the flock’s show team this year and sold in lamb to 10,000gns Hackney Corker.

Ali Jackson’s Tiptop flock sold a gimmer for 2000gns, this was Tiptop Cinderella sired by Ainstable Aristotle and out of Tiptop Allstar. Cinderella had been scanned in lamb to Belvoir View Chaos and was purchased by Messrs Rennie from Keith, Banffshire.

Ali also sold the dam of his top price gimmer for 1000gns. This was Tiptop Allstar, a 2015 born ewe sired by Woodies Wots Up Doc and scanned in lamb to Ardstewart Crispie.  She was purchased over the phone by Messrs Ferguson from Northern Ireland.

Topping the consignment from A, V & C Copland’s Orkney flock was the gimmer Orkney Cherry who sold for 1400gns. Cherry, sired by Airyolland Avicii, was the flock’s show gimmer this year and was purchased on the day by Messrs Walker from Hexham.

MR & JE Davis’ Rathbone flock sold to a top of 600gns for Rathbone California a Drumcapel Scooby daughter in lamb to 1400gns Belvor View Derminator who was purchased at Carlisle Premier sale in August.

Best of the Cothi flock’s offering was the gimmer Cothi Courtney who was purchased by Messrs Jack from Milton Keynes for 500gns.
