The Annual ‘Northern Supreme Sale’ held at Borderway Mart on Friday the 28th August was the largest catalogued entry of Blue Texel Sheep to date with a huge entry of 428 Rams and Females. A New Breed Record was set when long-term breeders Steve & Sara Gibbons from the Whatmore Flock who are certainly no strangers to achieving records within the breed sold their Ram Lamb, lot 401, WHATMORE E-MALE for the new record price of 25,000Gns. Whatmore E-Male sired by Whatmore Chaos a Whatmore Siren son out of Whatmore Banoffi. Sold to breed enthusiast Henry Jewitt of the Sunnybank Flock.
Quality Ram Lambs were very much sort after with Rhys Francis having a tremendous pen of ram lambs taking the next top price of the day for lot 292 – PISTYLL EVEREST, sired by the RWAS 2019 Male & Reserve Overall Champion Caryl’s Blues Dazzler out of a Whatmore Worcester sired homebred ewe. This sold for 6500gns to joint purchasers Kevin Watret (Solway View) and Paul Tippetts (Hackney). Rhys also sold lots 293 for 5500gns to Stasa Moyse & lots 294 to 2800gns to Messrs Graham.
New breeder Matthew Burleigh, who is no stranger to success in other breeds had an excellent initial sale for his first ever crop of Blue Texel ram lambs selling for joint 3rd top price of the day, lot 344 Matts Escobar sired by Saltire Blue Derek and out Derg Cindy a Cleenagh Alfonso daughter this sold for 6000gns to Stasa Moyse (Saltire).
Shearling rams topped at 5000gns for lot 266 from Aled Groucott – NANTYDERRI DEREK sired by Derg Churchill out of Cleenagh Big Bird, this sold back to original breeder Rhys Cooke. Aged Rams peaked at 1500gns for lot 175 from Fraser Forsyth – Beili Blues BBD/18/05576 bred by Dylan & Bethan Jones sired by Dragon Blues Buster and out of a Whatmore Walnut homebred ewe, this sold to Messrs Jackson & Deakin.
Females were a flying trade and very much in demand, Stasa Moyse had fantastic trade with her pen of superb shearling gimmers. Leading the ladies and taking top price Female and joint 3rd price of the day from Stasa was lot 73 a substitute entry SALTIRE DORIS, sired by Caryls Blues Captain out of Stasa’s successful show ewe Saltire A Beauty, this sold for 6000gns to Gillian & Victoria Bowring, Mansfield and joins their Wind-Mill Flock.
Stasa also achieved 5500gns for lot 69 Saltire Blue Dawn sired by Caryls Blue Captain out of a homebred Hackney Your Joking daughter, this heads to Co Tyrone to Join new breeder Raymond McFarland.
Stasa further acttained 4500gns twice for lot 72 Saltire Dreamer and lot 74 Saltire Damson.
Ewe Lambs peaked at 3250gns for lot 147 PISTYLL EYE CANDY full sister to 6000gns Pistyll Everest also from Rhys Francis this sold to David Roberts (Boyo Flock).
