Blue Texel Spring Spectacular Sale

19th May 2018

The inaugural Blue Texel Sheep Society Spring Spectacular sale saw a top price of 1200gns achieved for a shearling gimmer from Stasa Moyse’s Saltire flock.  This March 2017 born gimmer, Saltire Blue Barbie, was sired by 3300gns Hackney Your Joking and out of the flock’s show ewe Jonsland Xtrovert. She was purchased by J Carter from Huddersfield.

Stasa also sold another gimmer by the same sire for 1000gns. This was Saltire Blue Bees Knees out of one of the flock’s imported foundation ewes. The successful bidder on this occasion was A & C Watson from Whitehaven.

Selling at the same money was a 2016 born ewe with her twin lambs at foot consigned by A Groucott.  The ewe Swffryd Adele was sired by the successful show ram Llyn Y Bugail Xion and out of a ewe bred by the Sams flock. Her lambs Swiffryd Chanelle and Classy were sired by a Turbo Blue ram. This unit was purchased by C & R Sadler from Gisborough, North Yorkshire.

Another ewe selling with twin lambs at foot was the next best in the price rankings at 950gns. This was Mrs E and Issy Hartley’s Pendle Yippie who sold with her Cairnrock Bang Tidy sired ewe and ram lambs. Yippie has been shown successfully in the past winning AOB Champion at Westmorland Show in 2015. They were purchased by Messrs Odger and Braithwaite from Roughlee, Lancashire.

Henry Jewitt was responsible for the best of the recipients with ET lambs at foot when he sold the ram lamb Sunnybank Coca Cola for 900gns. Sired by Hackney Xcel and out of a Gregors ewe this lamb was purchased with his recipient dam by Cormack and McDowell from Leicester.

Sale averages: 4 Ewes with lambs £918.75; 8 Shearling gimmers £741.56; 10 Recipient ewes with lambs at foot £691.95
