Bloomfield Show Heifer Tops At Borderway
The best Holstein herds from the north of England and Scotland made the October Border & Lakeland Club sale a special one with cows and heifers of the highest quality on offer. Milk producers and breeders had an incredible selection of animals to choose from all producing large volumes of milk and many bred from deep cow families with impressive lifetime production.
Trade topped at 4,300gns for a stylish show heifer with milking animals averaging £2248, over 80 animals sold for £2000 or more. The sale included the Wormanby Autumn Youngstock Sale were priced topped at 5,200gns with 189 lots averaging over £2000 per life.
Topping the trade at 4,300gns was Stardale Bloomfield Vaakje 4 consigned by J Burrows from Lancaster. Sired by Siemers Bloomfield and bred from their famous Vaakje cow family this heifer displayed huge potential and had a world class mammary. She was purchased by Ifor Williams from South Wales. Another six heifers from the Stardale herd sold to average almost £2700.
Tom and Anne White from Watsonfoot continued to disperse their herd with another nine freshly calved cows and heifers averaging close to £2400. This powerful group of Holsteins topped at 3,100gns for Watsonfoot Charley Delta. She was producing 34kgs and bred from a EX91 Picston Shottle grand dam and was purchased by the McCulloch family from Stranraer.
The Berryholme herd of David & Francis Wright sold three milking heifers and topped at 2,850gns for Berryholme Secret Flo. She was sired by Secretariat and bred from a classy line of the Flo cow family. The third dam was Golden Flo the All Britain winning Junior two year old daughter of the 2010 National Champion Holmland Storm Flo. This heifer was purchased by G. Thomas from Carmarthenshire. Eight well bred bulling heifers sold from Berryholme at the end of the sale to average over £2000 and topped at 3,000gns for Berryholme Callen Flo who now joins the Ortongrange Holstein herd.
Boclair Missan Hope sold for 2,800gns to the McColm family from Stranraer. She was consigned by David Brewster from Glasgow and was bred from a Very Good Byway sister to their successful show cow Boclair Sid Hope.
Stowbeck Holstein sold ten heifers to average £2341 and topped at 2,500gns on several occasions. Stowbeck Classic Lydia sired by Oconnors Classic was the first from this outstanding group to sell from 2,500gns she was bred from five generations of Excellent or Very Good dams and all with impressive lifetime production.
Balcurvie Holsteins sold eight powerful heifers with impressive udders and all producing large volumes of milk. They topped at 2,550gns for Balcurvie Calumet Wanda, she was sired by Larcrest Calumet and was bought by the Caldwells from Maybole in Ayrshire.
Warnelview Holstein sold a perfect uddered heifer for 2,600gns to Baltier Farming near Newton Stewart. Warnelview Control Leeor was sired by JK Eder Control and was giving 35kgs.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 4th November and features over 300 dairy cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale. This includes the final dispersal of the Little Float herd of Irish Friesian cows and heifers, also 30 pedigree Fleckvieh in calf heifers from D. Clarke.
