Deveronside Tops Trade At Border Pedigree Sale
The first Border & Lakeland show and sale of 2018 had a excellent offering of high producing cows and heifers topping at 3,200gns to average £1687 with 19 animals selling for or more than £2000. The winter weather conditions made it difficult and in some cases impossible for some consignors and buyers to travel to Borderway, however there was a large ringside of buyers from across the North of England, Scotland and N. Ireland.
The event was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Cogent and judged by Graham Bradley from Bradley Farms in Lancashire. His overall Champion went to Espland Jordan Sue 5 who was consigned by Alan Cannon from Appleby. Sue was a perfectly balanced heifer with a world class mammary and bred from four generations of Excellent or Very Good dams. She sold for 2,100gns to TH&J Robinson, Burtholme Farm, Brampton.
The Reserve Champion went to the winner of the cow class consigned by Justin Hoggarth. Mellguards History Sue was fresh in her second and bred from 6 generations of Excellent or Very Good cows from the famous Oak Ridges Sue cow family. She sold for 1,800gns to N&M Oldfield, Demense Farm East, Clitheroe.
Included in the sale was 50 outstanding cows and heifers being the second sale to disperse the Deveronside Holstein herd owned by Barclay & Lucy Mair from Kinnermit Farm near Turriff in Aberdeenshire. It was a Deveronside animal that topped the sale at 3,200gns. Deveronside Bolt Melinda was bred from 9 generations of animals classified in the top two grades tracing back to the Pond-Oak Ned Boy Margot cow family. She now joins the Brownfield herd of Matthew Gemmell from Dumfries.
The Roan family from Colvend, Kirkcudbright sold a number of special heifers topping at 2,150gns for Colvend Doorman Jazz from the Twizzlefoot Counselor Jazz cow family. She was purchased by HS Watson, Laigh Tarbeg Farm, Ayrshire.
Derek and Hazel Fell from Midtown Farm, Bootle sold the first animals in what will be the dispersal of their pedigree Riverstar Holstein herd. They sold a number of outstanding animals and topped at 1,900gns for a special fourth calf cow sired by Denmire Magners. She recently classified Excellent 93 and had a special pedigree, bred from an EX91 Goldwyn, from an EX93 Storm followed by an EX90 Blackstar Fred.
The next dairy sale at Borderway is the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day Sale and takes place on Wednesday 31st January. Entries for this sale close next week Wednesday 24th.
