STATESMAN WIN FOR THE WORMANBY HERD
The April Border & Lakeland club show and sale and Spring Jersey sale had an exceptional offering of high yielding heifers many bred from world class pedigrees. Trade topped at 2,050gns to average £1880 with only five heifers selling below £1800.
The show was sponsored by Zoetis, Cogent and Advanced Nutrition and expertly judged by Robert Hunter from the Letterkenny Jersey herd. He selected Wormanby Statesman Lilly for his Overall Champion and Champion Udder. This powerful framed heifer was consigned by Wormanby Farms and was sired by Boclair Statesman and bred from four generations of Excellent or Very Good dams. She sold for 2,000gns to the Carrock Holstein herd owned by the Brough family near Dalston.

The Reserve Champion went to Stowbeck Montreal Madge consigned by the Wilson family from Skirwith Hall Farms. She was sired by Vieuxsaule Montreal and bred from a strong cow family with huge production. Madge sold for 2,0000gns to R Byres & Sons, Canonbie. Skirwith Hall sold another five heifers to average £1890.

The sale topper went to Espland Zelgadis Sally consigned by Alan Cannon from Espland Hill, Appleby. She was sired by Zelgadis and was giving 38kgs from a line of long-life cows. She sold for 2,050gns to J Marrs Broomhills Farm, Carlisle.
The Jersey show was won by Honeyfields O Lets Dance consigned by James & Gayle Robinson from the Wishwingwell herd near Leyburn, North Yorkshire. This powerful framed heifer had been purchased from the Black & White sale as a young calve and had won a number of shows in 2017. She was only nine days fresh and displayed huge potential. She sold for 1,750gns to W Oldfield near Gisburn.

The winning cow in milk and Reserve Champion was Saxon Vanahlem Judy GP83 consigned by Richard Saxby. This outstanding uddered cow was producing 34kgs and bred from a cracking line of the Judy cow family. She topped the Jersey sale at 2,000gns and now joins the herd JR Heuchan near Castle Douglas.
