Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Bull Sale

The 32nd Annual Autumn Border & Lakeland Bull sale once again proved that it is the No. 1 event in the UK for dairy farmers to select super sires all bred from impeccable pedigrees with outstanding longevity and impressive production.  Trade topped at 5,100gns with 21 bulls selling for or more than £3000 with the overall average coming to £2864 with only six bulls unsold.

Annandale Ranfurly consigned by the Armour family from Moffat topped the sale selling for 5,100gns to Mr Richardson from near Appleby.  Ranfurly was bred from a Very Good dam who produced over 15000kgs at 4.29% butterfat followed by thirteen generations of Excellent classified cows.  His 5th dam was the popular Topmark Raider Rhapsody who was awarded 55 breeding stars.  Nine other bulls from the Annandale herd sold well to average £3231.

Immunity Plus sires continue to be attractive to commercial milk producers and it was a son of Westcoast Lighthouse consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms who sold for 5,000gns.  Stowbeck Lighthouse has an impressive genomic proof, his VG88 Smokin dam gave over 12000kgs at 5% butterfat and was followed by a further three generations of Excellent dams.

Warnelview Holsteins sold fourteen wonderful young sires from their best transmitting cows to average almost £3400 and topped at 4,200gns for Warnelview Nordic.  Nordic was sired by Crushabull and bred from the close to perfect Excellent 97 points Warnelview Final Cut Nita.  Nita continues to milk in her eighth lactation having already passed 130-ton lifetime with many of her lactations testing over 5% butterfat.  This amazing cow had four sons in the sale that almost averaged £4000 with another Sandy-Valley Challenger son selling for 4,000gns.

British Friesian sires topped at 4,000gns to average £2499.  The top price sire, Winnoch Kentucky was consigned by the Brocket family from near Glasgow was sired by Winnoch Counsellor.  He was bred from the successful Penguin cow family that is renowned for breeding long life cows.
