Diamonds Are Most Valuable At Borderway
The November Border & Lakeland show and sale held at Borderway, Carlisle had another super choice of pedigree dairy cattle for buyers to choose from including high yielding cows and heifers, Jersey in-calf heifers and Brown Swiss bulls. Trade topped at 2,450gns to average £1776 for a 100% clearance down on the month by almost £100 with some animals looking excellent value for money.
The show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group, Cogent and Advanced Nutrition and judged by Ruth Harper from the Lillyhall and Lambroda pedigree herds. Her Overall Champion went to Stowbeck Loptimum Seaspray consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms Ltd. Seaspray was sired by Delaberge Loptimum tracing back to an Excellent third dam with over 50 ton lifetime. This close to perfect uddered heifer with super legs and feet sold for 1,750gns to Empire Holsteins, N. Ireland.
The Reserve Champion and Champion Udder was consigned by Newtonrigg College, Penrith. Newtonrigg McCuthchen Bunty was sired by top type sire McCuthchen and bred from an impressive line of Excellent and Very Good cows. This awesome uddered heifer sold for 2,200gns to W. Brewster, Wester Borland Farm, Stirling
The sale topper came from the Belaw Holstein herd of Bellerby family near Northallerton, North Yorkshire. Belaw Paul Diamond was sired by Belaw Paul and bred from a Very Good 88 dam sired by Gerard. She sold for 2,450gns to W. Brewster, Wester Borland Farm, Stirling. The Belaw herd sold another four heifers to average over £2000 including Belaw Mogul Darlene sired by the udder specialist Mogul for 2,150gns going to F Talbot, Preston.
There was once again a brisk trade for pedigree Jersey heifers topping at 1,550gns for a daughter of Topeka going to SN Graham, Hillend Farm, Annan. This excellent group of Jersey in-calf heifers were consigned by B&D Willison, Cinderbarrow Farm, Levens and averaged £1515.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Saturday 1st December and features the 32nd edition of the famous Black & White sale.
