Kingpin Heifer Tops for Boclair
Buyers were once again given a fantastic choice of exceptional quality animals at the July Border & Lakeland pedigree sale held at Borderway, Carlisle. Many of the heifers selling were bred from deep pedigrees that exceled in type, production and longevity and all were giving large volumes of high-quality milk. Trade topped at 2,600gns to average £1956 for a complete clearance with buyers from eleven counites on the buyers list.
The show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Advanced Nutrition and expertly judged by Wilson Stewart from the Straidnahanna herd. His Overall Champion and Champion Udder went to the winning Senior heifer in milk Espland Fitz Maisie consigned by Alan Cannon from Espland Farm, Appleby. She was sired by Toc-Farm Fitz and bred from a Bossman dam with production over 12500kgs. This amazing uddered heifer sold for 2,400gns to the Maverick herd owned by Craig Cochrane near Kilmarnock. Three other heifers from this home sold to average £2270.
The Reserve Champion went to another super uddered heifer again from the Espland herd, Espland Marilyn was producing 38kgs and was bred from a highly productive line of cows. She was purchased for 2,150gns by the Sloan family from Dormieston Farm in Ayrshire.
Topping the trade for milking animals was Boclair Kingpin Royalty consigned by the Brewster family from Glasgow. She was sired by Kingpin and bred from a VG87 Uno dam followed by fifteen Excellent dams from the Pinehurst Rapture cow family. She now joins the herd of Will & Mike Oldfield in Yorkshire selling for 2,600gns. The Boclair herd sold six heifers to average £2257.
There was a quality group of in-calf heifers forward topping at 1,650gns for Coopon Cordial Jeltje consigned by Newhouse Farm Ltd, Dumfries. She was sired by AltaCordial and bred from an Iota dam with sky high butterfat and protein. She was purchased by Mr Purdie from the West of Scotland.
The annual production sale of pedigree British Friesian heifers from the prize winning Lismulligan herd was one of the star attractions of the July pedigree sale. Famous for their longevity and outstanding type buyers continue to return year on year to invest in these prolific cow families. Topping this year’s consignment was Lismulligan Redbreast 63 selling for 2,000gns to Roy Swallow from Northumberland with 25 heifer calves averaging £911.
