Border & Lakeland Holstein Club May Sale

15th May 2020

APPLICABLE RARITY TOPS MAY PEDIGREE SALE

Thanks to the consignors and buyers who made the first Border & Lakeland sale during lockdown such a success.  Trade topped at 2,300gns to average £1808 for a quality consignment of animals, with the Live Bidding platform playing an important role this popular event.  Demand for dairy cattle continues to display resilience during this challenging time especially considering the turmoil within the food chain.

The value of pedigree was once again clear to see with two special heifers consigned by Adam Walton from Beech Holme Farm topping the sale.  Bowberhill Applicable Rarity was purchased in the Bowberhill dispersal sale as a calve, she was sired by the UK’s current Top Type Sire, Stantons Applicable and bred from an VG88 Dorcy dam.  She sold for 2,300gns along with Bowberhill Archimedes Thavana Red who sold for 2,250gns to Baltier Farms.

Lot 546 – 2300gns

Balcurvie Holsteins from Fife sold three super uddered with tow selling for 1,900gns for Balcurvie Jareb Myra and Balcurvie Unix Barbs.

Brian Craig from Carneil Farm in Fife sold a super group of heifers to average £1863 and topped at 1,900gns for Kibbleston Tom Wilma sired by Major Tom.

Ayrshires topped at 1,550gn son several occasions for some very milky heifers consigned by the Stevenson family from Kirminnoch Farm near Stranraer.
