CHIEF DAUGHTER TOPS FOR WARNELVIEW
42 ANIMALS SELL FOR OR MORE THAN £2000
Buyers had an outstanding selection of superb pedigree Holstein heifers and cows to choose from at the July Border & Lakeland Club sale held at Carlisle. The quality on offer was world class with many animals bred from prolific pedigrees that had several generations of Excellent dams. In total 42 animals sold for or more than £2000 with the overall average milking heifers settling at £2118 and the top price coming to 3,800gns.
Topping the sale at 3,800gns was Warnelview Chief Bunty consigned by Kevin & Christine Wilson from Wood Farm. Bunty excelled in style and looks every part a big time show animal. She was sired by Stantons Chief and was purchased by Jason Booth from N. Ireland. Another eight heifers from the Warnelview herd sold to avergae almost £2200.
Selling for 2,750gns was Evening Diamondback Kitty consigned by Evening Hill Farms. This powerful black heifer was sired by Diamondback and was bred from an Excellent 92 dam, her fifth dam was the famous Excellent 95 show winning cow CRF Birch Kitty. This special heifer goes to S. Forshaw near Preston.
Balmangan Farms from near Kirkudbright sold ten heifers to average £2226 and topped at £2450 for Balmangan Helicon Wonder. She was giving 45kgs and was purchased by the Sommervilles from near Dumfries.
The Stardale herd sold six very productive heifers all with deep pedigrees to average £2243 and topped at 2,400gns for Stardale Unicorn Dellia. She was sired by progenesis Unicorn and will be the eighth generation to classify Excellent or Very Good. She was purchased by the Bargh family from Woodclose Farm.
The Inman family from Strickland Hill Farm topped the cow trade at 2,300gns and came away with the best avergae of the day at £2282. Witherslack Cayle Ivory was sired by Larcrest Cayle and was bred from an Excellent 91 dam, this highly productive sold was purchased by the Metcalfe family from near Preston.
The Hodgson family from Wormanby sold eight very milky cows and heifers to average almost £2200 with serval heifers selling for 2,300gns including Wormanby Chief Betty sired by Stantons Chief who was purchased by S. Forshaw near Preston.
Brown Swiss cattle were in demand with three special heifers consigned by Matthew and Ruth Harper from the Lillyhall herd. Their in calf heifer, Lillyhall Blooming Evita sold for 2,700gns to Stephen Sherratt in Cheshire who also purchased their milking heifer from the Snickerdoodle family for 2,600gns.
Ayrshire heifers from the Swaities herd topped 2,100gns for Swaites Fleicity sired by Rager Red and this fine group averaged over £2000.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 5th August and features the monthly Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale.
