BANKROLL LILA Z WINS FOR ORTON GRANGE
Borderway was packed with quality dairy cows for the November Border & Lakeland Club sale with 222 exceptional animals selling to a top of 3,200gns with 36 animals selling for or more than £2000. Buyers from England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland and the Rep. of Ireland purchased cattle from 19 counties. The milking heifers in the club sale averaged £1847 and were followed by the Orton Grange sale that averaged £1829.
The show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Advanced Nutrition and judged by Ted Fearon owner and breeder of the well-known Walton herd. He tapped out Ortongrange Bankroll Lila Z as his Overall Champion consigned by Richard Martin and part of the Orton Grange reduction sale. Lila Z had recently calved with her second having classified Very Good 86 as a two-year-old. Her fourth dam was the famous Million Dollar Lylehaven Lila Z EX94. This special young cow was purchased for 3,000gns by R. Scott of the Nethervalley herd.
The Reserve Champion rosette was awarded to Stowbeck Fitz Ester consigned by the Wilson family from Skirwith Hall Farms. She was a special heifer with a very attractive mammary and bred from three generation of Very Good or Excellent dams and sold for 2,350gns to G. McCulloch from Stranraer.
Skirwith Hall Farms sold a further nine heifers to average £2035 and included Stowbeck Unix Lillibet who sold for 2,200gns. She was sired by top type and udder specialist Croteau Lesperron Unix and was bred from a line of dams excelling in longevity with massive lifetime yields and now joins the herd of Mr Brewster from Wester Borland Farm.
The Gillespie family from High Ploughlands Farm sold for heifers to average £1929 and topped at 2,100gns for Ploughlands Fitz Darling. She was sired by Toc-Farm Fitz and bred from a highly productive line of cows and was purchased by Mr Brewster from Wester Borland Farm.
Robbie Scott from the Nethervalley herd sold two well bred heifers giving oceans of milk to average £2037 and topped at 2,100gns for Nethervale Countess Tabby from the Blackstar Tabby cow family. The Scott family sold the Goldwyn third dam in this special pedigree for 13,500gns in the Black & White sale several years ago, Countess Tabby was purchased by the Sloan family from Dormieston Farm, Ayrshire.
The next dairy sale Borderway takes place of Friday the 15th November and features the reduction sale of the highly productive Wreaywood herd on behalf of the Wilson family.
