Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Sale

The quality on offer at the March Border & Lakeland Holstein club sale held at Borderway, Carlisle was once again a credit to all involved and the event continues to offer milk producers the best choice in the UK.  The catalogue was packed from start to finish with heifers bred from deep pedigrees that excelled in production with massive lifetime yields and superior type.  Trade topped at 2,800gns to average £1953 for a 100% clearance with 35 animals selling for or more than £2000.

The sale was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Advanced Nutrition and judged expertly by Ali Cook from Hurkledale Farms, Annan.  His overall Champion went to Elitestreet Octane Noel 2 consigned by Absolute Genetics from Kirkham, Lancashire.  She was a perfectly put together daughter of Stantons High Octane and bred from the 20,000gns Sterndale Atwood Noel who was an All Britain winner in 2014.  The next seven dams were all Excellent from the prolific DRA August cow family.  This super young animal sold well below her true value going to JJ Taylor, High Whinnow Farm for 2,000gns.  The Taylor family bought her January born Rubicon daughter for 1,800gns.

Reserve Champion and Champion Udder went to Boclair Silver Vision sired by Seagull-Bay Silver and consigned by David Brewster from the prize winning Boclair Farm near Glasgow.  Her udder flirted with perfection and was producing over 40kgs per day; her pedigree was deep with five generations of Excellent or Very Goods in her maternal line.  She sold for 2,250gns to Mr Vance, Newton Stewart..

Best Udder

Following on from the success in the show ring the Boclair herd sold another five heifers topping at 2,800gns to average £2425.  Topping this exceptional group was Boclair Caviar Echo sired by Gillette Caviar and bred from five generations of Excellent cows.  Her dam was an Excellent 93 Dempsey with over 15000kgs followed by an Excellent Shottle with over 12000kgs.  She was purchased by W Brewster from Stirling.

Balcurvie Holsteins from Fife sold thirteen powerful heifers all with powerful frames and remarkable mammary systems topping at 2,450 to average just over £2000.  Topping this quality consignment was Balcurvie Jareb Eileen sired by Harline Jareb who was purchased by Mr Vance, Newton Stewart.  She had only recently calved 10 days ago and was already producing oceans of milk.

Jim and David Gray from Drumtall Farm sold three heifers topping at 2,380gns for Wyndford Artes Duchess sired by Go-Farm Artes and bred from three generations of Excellent or Very Good cows.  She was blessed with a world class udder and she displayed an incredible ability to produce large volumes of milk and was purchased by Shotts Genetics, Lanark.

Robert Steel from the Kepculloch herd sold a young heifer with potential to develop into a winner in the future.  She was Kepculloch Atwood Meg and was sired by the big time show maker Maple-Downs Atwood.  She was bought by William and Mike Oldfield from Yorkshire.

The Wilson family from Skirwith Hall Farms sold six heifers topping at 2,150gns to average £2134.  Stowbeck Upright Renee topped this marvellous consignment; she was sired by Morningview Upright and was producing 34kgs.  Her dam was an Excellent Fever followed by an Excellent 91 Manat with over 70 ton lifetime and a VG Raider third dam with over 80 ton lifetime.  She was bought by Mr McCulloch from Stranraer.

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on the 3rd April and features the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale were over 250 animals are excepted, including freshly calved cows and heifers, in-calf heifers and bulling heifers.  A special consignment of Swedish Red and Jersey heifers will be forward on this day.  Catalogues are available online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be ordered from the Pedigree Office on 01228 406230.
