Borderway Monthly Dairy Day

The August Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale had something for everyone with 250 head changing hands.  Trade topped at £2400 with Holstein milking heifers averaging £1849; 21 animals sold for £2000 or more. 61 buyers were recorded from 21 counties across England, Scotland, Wales & N. Ireland with just over 50 animals purchased online.  Trade was less on the month for most categories with some animals looking excellent value for money.

Holstein heifers topped at £2400 for an unregistered heifer from Balcurvie Holsteins.  She had an amazing mammary and displayed a perfect balance of strength and dairyness.  Another heifer from this home sired by Goodwhone sold for £2350 with the whole group averaging £1907.

The top average of the day went to the Liscabank herd of the Parkinson family from Lancashire coming to £1933.  The bargain of the day was also from this home with Liscabank Hartley Ashlyn selling for only £2200.  She was bred from a VG86 Silver dam, sister to the All European winner, Riverdane Ashlyns Gold.

Holstein cows topped at £2200 for Wreaywood Price Becky consigned by the Wilson’s from Woodside Farm.  She was fresh in her second giving 63kgs and bred from a dam with over 13000kgs.  This superb group of nine cows and heifers averaged almost £1900.

Super uddered Ayrshire heifers sold to a top of £2000 for Stevenson’s Lauren consigned by William Stevenson from Kirminncok Farm near Stranraer.  She was sired by Cuthill Towers Roderick and bred from a dam with over 10000kgs.

A small number British Friesian cattle were in demand with the average for milking cows coming to £1950.  The Bell family from Nerewater Farm topped at £2000 for a heifer from their prize winning herd.

37 Holstein Friesian dry cows from J. Wilson Little Float Farm, Stranraer topped at £1450 to average £1310.

In-calf heifers continue to sell well with heifers due soon selling to £1600 on several occasions for heifers consigned by Church Farm in Brampton.

23 Holstein and British bulling heifers topped at £1150 for a daughter of Winersell Titan consigned by the Kennedy family from Chapelcroft Farm near Lochmaben.  This cracking group averaged £1008.
