Borderway Anniversary Show and Sale of Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had an entry of 1536 head at the Weekly Wednesday Sale of Cattle at Borderway comprising of 1045 Store cattle and weanlings 313 calves, Border and Lakeland Club Sale of 160 and 18 Commercial dairy cattle. This week’s event incorporated the Anniversary Store cattle show and sale. Trade for all sections was very positive and prices continue to be strong.

STORE CATTLE – A tremendous entry of 807 Continental cross store cattle for the Anniversary show and sale all classes selling exceptionally well with all vendors leaving delighted with their returns.  The show was kindly judged by Mr Joe Little, Greenhill Farm Wigton who awarded the Overall Champion to a Limousin heifer from TJ Hall & Son, Horsleyhill Farm, Hawick.  The Reserve Champion was Charolais steer from  RN & RA Scott, West Micklethwaite, Wigton.

The top price on the day was a marvellous Limousin cross heifer selling to £1600 from Messrs Robinson, Bog Hall, Newcastle.  Messrs Baxter, Eden Banks, Carlisle sold another to £1500.  Charolais crosses sold to £1290 from Messrs Baty, Broomhills, Carlisle. British Blues to £1280 from Messrs Mitchinson, High Green Hill, Brampton.  Steers peaked at £1515 from Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, Brampton for a Limousin cross.  Messrs Baxter, Eden Bank sold another to £1455 and Messrs Stainton, The Garth, Croglin to £1405, the same vendor also received £1455 for Charolais.  British Blues to £1355 from Messrs Baty, Broom Hill, Carlisle and finally Aberdeen Angus to £1340 from Messrs Millar, Crookholm Farm, Canonbie.

The highest average of the day came from Messrs Baxter, Edenbank who sold 5 to average £1401. Under 12 months old cattle also sold very well with a consignment from Messrs Scott, West Micklethwaite averaging £1123 and 10 eight month old heifers from John Fell, Stanger Hill averaging £1095.  The Overall sale average was £1062.32 for 807 head sold. Many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.

WEANED CATTLE: – A nice show of 238 weaned cattle were forward, seeing a high demand throughout. Trade proved very strong from start to finish, with all vendors leaving highly delighted.

Top price of the day was a tremendous British Blue bull from Messrs Thompson, East Unthank, Haltwhistle, peaking at £1230. Heifers saw a top of £1200 for a tremendous Limousin cross consigned by Messrs Dale, Airds of Barclay, Castle Douglas.
