Borderway Annual Autumn Suckled Calf Show and Sale

28th September 2019

On Saturday 28th September Harrison and Hetherington held their annual Special sale of 825 Suckled calves at Borderway Mart.

The Show and sale was very kindly sponsored by Capontree Vets, David Allen, Sure Calf, North West Limousin Breeders Club and the Border Charolais Club.

The pre sale judging was carried out with great expertise by Mr Paul Barwood, Great Yarmouth. His Champion came from the Limousin heifer class, which was consigned by Messrs T Laird & Son, Carbello & Sunnyside Farms, Cumnock. She is a Kinniside Mobydick daughter out of a homebred British Blue cross dam. This 10 month old Black heifer went on to sell at £2200 to McNeil Estates, Shennington Estate, Newton Stewart.

The Reserve Champion also came from the same class, the second prize heifer, a Netherhall Jackpot daughter out of a ¾ Limousin bred dam was consigned by Messrs LH Lomas & Son, Manor House, Middlewich, sold to £1700 and was purchased by B & T Kitson Ltd, Hutton Rudby.

The sale topped at £5000, for the 3rd prize heifer, again from the same class, from Haas Side Farms, Lockerbie. The 9 month old Red Limousin was sired by Sarkley Mercury and out of Goldrush, a Charolais cross show heifer, she went home with Mr Blair Dufton, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

Bullocks sold to £1550 for a Galloway steer, shown by Messrs E Telfer & Sons, Newton High House, Stocksfield, going to Low Middelton Livestock, Belford.

The sale drew a large company of buyers, with all classes of stock being well bid for, given the limitations of the finishing market. An overall sale average of £936.36 saw a fall of £53 on the year, a very pleasing result.
