Borderway Annual August Fair Sale of Breeding Sheep

On Friday 7th August Harrison & Hetherington held their annual “August Fair” of breeding sheep seeing a quality entry of 1400 sheep forward.

The sale proved very promising despite the good spell of weather. All sheep were very well bid for seeing most vendors leaving highly delighted.

The sale saw a quality run of 350 Texel cross Suffolk 2-4 shear ewes from Messrs Lawson, Pasture House Farm, Wigton who also topped the sale with a Texel 2 shear to peak the sale at £265. The quality run of sheep went onto average £160.44 which was a staggering £19.19 up on the same run of sheep last year with shearlings this year.

The full sale proved very promising, Mule and Suffolk ewes very strongly bid for with a consignment from Messrs Batty, Flimby Hall,Flimby of 2 shear mule ewes selling  for £150 and £148 as well as a run from Messrs Graves,Hesket Demains, Carlisle selling a run of 3 shears for £145, £140, £135 x2
