Borderway Annual Latter Fair Ram Sale

On Thursday 20th September, Borderway Mart held their Annual Latter Fair sale of breeding rams.

SUFFOLK RAMS – A mixed show of Suffolk shearlings and ram lambs were forward to a good ringside of local farmers, ensuring a great trade.

Messrs Soulsby, Williamsgill Farm run of Suffolk ram lambs topped at £1000. Messrs Borthwick, Catlins Farm sold a Suffolk ram lamb late in the sale at £690. Messrs Irving, East Cliff Farm run of great shearlings topped at £600 twice.

CONTINENTAL RAMS – A very average show of continentals were forward with all the best quality rams exceeding the expectations of vendors and poorer ended rams harder to cash.

Top overall was a Texel shearling form Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield topping at £880, with the pen averaging £740 for five rams. Dutch Texel shearlings peaked at £850 twice from Messrs Mounsey, Ashfield, Irthington. Many more quality rams could have been sold.
