Borderway ‘August Fair’ Sale of Breeding Sheep

At Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Friday 10th August, Harrison & Hetherington held their Annual “August Fair” sale of breeding sheep.

A catalogued entry of 1200 breeding ewes were forward along with a selection of breeding rams.

An excellent consignment of sheep were on offer to a packed ringside of buyers however trade was selective.

Topping the sale was an excellent pen of gimmers from Mr Robert Skelton, Newhall Farm, Maryport, peaking at £305 for an exceptional Beltex. This top quality run of 207 continental gimmers went on to average at £187.67.

Following the breeding sheep saw a catalogued run of 60 rams, a strong demand was had for all quality rams. Topping the sale at £570 was a 2shear Texel ram from Messrs Struthers, Greenbank Farm, Carluke. This good run also topped at £500 for a Beltex ram.
