Borderway Beef Breeding Sale

On Friday 25th May, Harrison & Hetherington held their monthly sale of Beef Breeding cattle.

Cows & Heifers with calves at foot: With a great entry of 550, being the largest in the UK of cows and heifers with calves at foot, were presented to one of the largest ring sides of buyers seen at Borderway for many years. Trade was far dearer than expected, with the whole sale of cows and heifers with calves at foot averaging £2005. For a 100 more lots sold.

Messrs Cadzow, Inland Pasture Farm run of heifers and calves topped at £3600 for a British Blue heifer with Limousin cross calf at foot. Mr Craig Malone, Pitcairn Farm run of heifers and calves also peaked at £3600 for a British Blue cross heifer and Limousin calf. Messrs McAlister, Wester Thomaston run of heifers and calves topped at £3500 for a British Blue cross heifer with Limousin cross bull calf.

Messrs Longmere, Knapperthaw Farm sold a Limousin heifer with Limousin cross bull calf for £3500. Messrs Lee & Son, Stockley Burn Farm run of stock cows topped at £3400 for a British Blue cow and Limousin calf.

Bulling Heifers: Bulling heifers met a fast trade throughout, with the day’s trade being topped by Messrs Hall, Ainstable Hall with a tremendous pair of British Blue heifers selling to £2450. Quality heifers selling to a premium.

Breeding Bulls: A good show of bulls were forward to a great demand, with a total of 11 out of 13 sold. Topping the trade at 8000gns was an outstanding Limousin stock bull from Messrs Lees & Sons, Stockley Burn Farm, this was a 2012 born bull and bred by Rossignol and out of a Ronick Hawk daughter.
