On Friday 24th May, Harrison & Hetherington held their monthly sale of Beef Breeding cattle.

COWS & HEIFERS WITH CALVES AT FOOT: A great entry of 529 cows and heifers with calves at foot, were forward. Credit must be given to the vendors for showing some great outfits, with 164 units selling for 2000gns and over.

Mr Craig Malone, Pitcarin had an outstanding run of 6 heifers and calves, that sold to average £3650 and topped at £7000 for a black Limousin cross heifer with her February born heifer calf, sired by the noted Lodge Hamlet AI sire. This outstanding outfit was purchased by Mr Gary Bell, Haas Side Farm, Lockerbie.

Top price £7000- C Malone, Pitcairn Farm

Messrs Harryman, Swainsea Barn run of heifers and cows with calves topped at £3800 for a Limousin cross heifer and bull calf.  The same home also sold a British Blue cross cow and heifer calf to £3700, with 9 outfits averaging £2744.

Messrs Stevenson & Sons, Lower Langshaw outstanding run of 36 outfits topped at £3400 for a British Blue cross heifer and bull calf at foot. This whole run averages £2322.

Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale run of 16 heifers and calves topped at 33100 for a British Blue cross heifer and bull calf.

Messrs Cadzo, Inland Pasture run of 17 heifer and calves averaged £2688 and topped at £3000 (x3) for Limousin heifers and calves.

BULLING HEIFERS: The Annual May Sale of bulling heifers attracted a catalogued entry of 536 forward. The trade was steadier on the year, however the sale topped at £2700 for a tremendous British Blue cross from Messrs, Hall, Ainstable Hall. This great run of 43 cattle averaged £1427.

Foley Bros, Mirlaw House, Newcastle Upon Tyne had an excellent run of 11 British Blue and Limousin cross heifers, which topped at £1750 (3) and averaged £1586.
