WHINCHAT TOPS WITH SAVOIRE FARE

The 2018 Black & White sale had one of the best offerings in its thirty-two year history, and included the National Champion Calf, a sister to the National Champion Holstein and a Jersey daughter of the breed record seller.  Trade topped at 12,500gns to average £3600 with more than a quarter of the sale selling for or more than £4000.

Topping the sale at 12,500gns was Whincat Atwood Savoire Fare consigned Andrew Birkle from Leicestershire.  Sired by Atwood and bred from ten generations of high scoring Excellent cows that averaged 94.4points.  Her dam was an Excellent 96 Shottle with over 80 ton lifetime production, followed by a Excellent 95 grand dam sired by Gibson with over 90 ton lifetime.  This amazing young heifer was purchased by James McNeil, Stranraer.

The sale was blessed with an a world class offering of Red & White cattle and topping this special group was Logan Diamond B Jodie Red consigned by Brian & Michael Yates from Castle Douglas.  Jodie was sired by Diamondback and bred from the unbeaten Logan Integral Jodie Red VG88 2yr who had won at UK Dairy Expo and the National Red & White Show in 2018.  She sold for 9,000gns to the Crossnacole Holstein in the Rep. of Ireland.

The very first member of the Silvermaple Damion Camomile cow family to sell in the UK sold for 7,800gns to H & M Hodgson and Sarah Sutton.  Absolute Jacoby Ciao Bella was consigned by Graham Kirby owner of the Absolute Genetics stud.  This beautiful Jacoby daughter was his #1 Type daughter in the UK and full sister to one of the most exciting sires in the Blondin Sires bull stud, Blondin J Crown Royal.

Max Davies has taken the Davlea Holstein herd to new heights in recent years winning the National Champion title this year with Davlea Bradnick Alicia.  Her Applicable sister was one of the star lots in this year’s sale and sold for 7,500gns to Designer Holsteins in Essex.  Davlea Applicable Alicia was born in September and looked so much like her show winning sister.

Gary and Izzy Jones form the Jones Holstein herd consigned a Doorman daughter from their unbeaten three year old, Clonpaddin Brokaw Fame.  Brokaw Fame won the Milking Yearling class at UK Dairy Expo in 2017 and in 2018 has won at the National & Royal Welsh show.  Her big time Doorman sold for 6,200gns to Brian & John O’Connor, Co. Cork, Rep. of Ireland.

The National Champion Heifer this year went to Evening Beemer Sunrise owned by the Wilson family from Evening Farm, Thursby, Carlisle.  Sunrise has improved since the National Show and is one of the best show heifers on the planet.  She sold for 6,000gns to the National Calf Show judge, Hefyn Wilson from the Tregibby Holstein herd.

Jersey heifers were in strong demand and topped at 4,400gns for Potterswalls Engineer Harp consigned by the syndicate of the Fleming Family, J. Henning & K. Agnew from N. Ireland.  She was a daughter of the Jersey price record holder Bluegrass Vindications Harp who sold for 11,000gns in the Red Ribbon sale in 2015.  She was been a sensational cow winning Grand Champion at UK Dairy Expo on three occasions and the Royal Highland twice.  Her most recent success was winning Grand Champion at Agriscot in 2018.  This ultra stylish calf was purchased by Hamish Campbell from Castle Douglas.

Potterswall Engine Harp – 4400gns

Demand for Brown Swiss genetics continues to grow at an ever increasing rate and topping these fine heifers was Lillyhall Blooming Evelyn consigned by Matthew and Ruth Harper from Maryport.  Evelyn was sired by top type sire Blooming and bred from eight generations of Excellent or Very Good cows tracing back to the World Dairy Expo Grand Champion Lyndale Convincer Elaine EX93.  Rachel Smith from Lincolnshire purchased her for 3,500gns.
