Borderway Latter Fair of Mule Gimmer Lambs

On Thursday 20th September Harrison and Hetherington held their annual ‘Latter Fair Sale’ of 4500 Mule gimmer lambs.

The pre-sale show was kindly sponsored by Dodd & Co Accountants and Capontree Vets.  The judging was left in the capable hands of Edward Albutt, Postlip Hall Farm, Winchcombe and Edwin Holliday Jnr, Clea Mire, Wigton with Les Yarnold, Hopesmoor, Burford acting as referee.

The Overall Championship, alongside the Dodd & Co perpetual trophy and special NEMSA rosette was awarded to Mr JW Smith-Jackson, High Town, Haltwhistle, for his leading pen of 10, which later went on to sell for £280 to Mr RA Batty, Kendal.

Topping the sale at £320 was the leading pen from Kilnstown Farms Ltd, Bewcastle, these were sold to regular buyers Mr C Hewitt, Lancaster.

The sale itself was deemed a flying success with prices being £10 a head dearer than any sale so far this season, with an average of £92.34 being achieved (-£3.53 on the year).

Tupping hoggs achieved £100 and beyond with ease, and runners selling well in to the £70’s and £80’s.
