The second Borderway Monthly Dairy Day of the year had 110 dairy cattle on offer, comprising of freshly calved cows & heifers and in-calf heifers. There was a packed ringside of buyers from across the North of England and Scotland in attendance with trade topping at £1800 to average £1319. Buyers were subdued following milk price reductions from a number of processors resulting in more downward pressure in the value of dairy cattle.
Topping the sale at £1800 was a very milky heifer giving over 31kg consigned by Messrs Hastwell, The Bulidings Farm, Kirby Stephen. They sold six heifers to average almost £1600 including a powerful black heifer only a week fresh for £1720.
Topping the Holstein cow trade was a daughter of Gen-I-Beq Seagul consigned by Adam Montgomerie, Lessnessock Farm, Cumnock. She was giving 36kgs and bred from a dam who twice gave over 10000kgs, she sold for £1680. The Lessnessock sold 12 other super uddered cows and heifers for one of the best averages of the day including Lessnessock Ice Buntie for £1680.
There was a quality consignment of British Friesians with cows topping at £1520 for a second calve cow from R Neill & Sons, Thornington Farm, Northumberland.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 14th February comprising 100 freshly calved cows and heifers and features the third sale to disperse the Deveronside herd.
