The August Borderway Monthly Dairy Day topped at £1950 to average £1443 for freshly calved cows and heifers. The sale had representation from most of the dairy breeds with Holstein, British Friesian, Montbeliarde, Swedish Red, Brown Swiss, Ayrshire and Fleckvieh cattle all selling. Dairy cattle continue to look excellent value for money compared to May and June values and will do so until producers have made adequate amounts of winter fodder.
Topping at £1950 was a very special heifer consigned by Jim Gray from Drumtall Farm, Glasgow. She was sired by Numero Uno and bred from the famous Balise cow family tracing back to the Weeton herd in Lancashire.
Cows topped at £1800 for a third calver from J Todhunter & Sons, Lonning Farm, Wigton. She was sired by Lonning Bounty and was giving almost 50kgs.
There were less British Friesian cows on show but sold well topping at £1650 for a tremendous powerful cow from JA Nanson & Son, Sorrow Stones, Holmrook.
Cross bred cows and heifers topped at £1800 for a very fancy uddered heifer consigned by M&M Maxwell, North Doddington Farm, Wooler. She was sired by Skyhigh Patrol from a Swedish Red dam.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 22nd August comprising 160 Pedigree Holstein, Ayrshire & Jerseys in the Border & Lakeland & Coloured Breeds Summer show and sale.
