KIRTLEVALE TOP TRADE IN NOVEMBER OPENER

The November dairy sales opened at Borderway with a brisk and buoyant trade in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale.  Buyers from across the north of England and Scotland packed a busy ringside where the trade top at £2050 with the average for fresh heifers up on the month to settle at £1668.

Topping the sale at £2050 was a pedigree heifer consigned by Richard Livingstone from Kirtlevale Farm near Gretna.  Kirtlevale Hurricane Judy was sired by Wiltor Hurricane and bred from an Excellent 93 dam who produced for ten lactations.  The Livingstone family sold another eight heifers to average £1737.

Lot 89 – £2050

John and Stuart Todhunter from Lonning Farm near Wigton sold five very classy heifers all producing oceans of milk to average £1764.  They topped at £2020 for Lonning Bride who was sired by their homebred sire Lonning Jacko Daisy.

Howard Walmsley from Preston sold three close to perfect heifers to average £1750 and topped at £1950 for a daughter of Stanton Motivator.  Two super heifers sell from this home next week at Borderway.

Paul Harrison from Brackney Hill Farm sold three very milky Dairy Shorthorn cross bred heifers all giving close to 35kgs.  They average £1840 and topped at £1920 for a daughter of Chishillways Tonian Roxstar and bred from a VG Shorthorn dam.

There was as super consignment of British Friesian cows and heifers all with excellent robust traits and strong legs and feet.  The Williamson family from The Howes Farm sold six cows to average £1678 and topped at £1920 for a very milky second calver.

Quality cows giving large volumes of milk were in demand. Topping the trade for the cows was a cow from R&A Slack from Cockley Bank giving almost 40kgs and sold for £1720.

Matthew Workman sold two super uddered and very productive Montbeliarde heifers all giving up to 25kgs to average £1775 and topped at £1880.

There was a very nice group of Ayshire in-calf heifers consigned from Mr Bell, Aigle Gill Farm that sold to a top of £1020 to average £933.

A mixture of Fleckvieh and Holstein bulling heifers sold well to average £826 topping at £920.
