ROXY TOPS FOR LANCASHIRE BREEDER

Borderway was packed with an enthusiastic crowd of buyers for the last Borderway Monthly Dairy Sale of 2019.  Trade topped at £2000 to average £1632 with buyers from the four home nations and sixteen counties taking part.  Once again, the breeders should be congratulated on the quality on offer, cows and heifers giving large volumes of milk from high quality udders were plentiful.

Topping the sale at £2000 was a pedigree heifer consigned by Howard Walmsley from Staffords Farm near Preston.  Fordswood Masterful Roxy was sired by Masterful and bred a super line of the Roxy cow family.  Mr Walmsley sold an additional eleven heifers to average £1865.

The Davidson family from the well-known Halmyre pedigree Ayrshire herd sold four Ayrhsire heifers to average £1862 and topped for the joint top price of the day at £2000 for a heifer giving 33kgs.

Twelve heifers sold for £1900 including Shoreline Copious Lydia consigned by Stephen Boow from the Dunnerdale herd, who sold three heifers to average £1806.

Jim & David Gray from Drumtall Farm, Glasgow sold Drumtall Albania Tilly for £1900 sired by View-Home Albania.

Richard Livingstone from the Kirtlevale herd sold last month’s top price heifer and he sold two this month for £1900.  Kirtlevale Bankroll Grace was sired by Crasdale Bankroll giving 32kgs and Kirtlevale Provider Melody was sired by Progenesis Provider giving 33kgs.

Cows topped at £1720 for a 44kgs cow from the Blamire family from Whinnow Farm near Wigton.

The Stewart family from Sandyknowe Farm near Kelso dispersed most of their herd last week at Borderway and consigned 20 freshly calved animals that had only calved in the last few weeks.  They sold a third calved calve cow giving 40kgs for £1700.  They sold seven heifers in this group to average £1756 and topped at £1900 for a daughter of Queenscairn Freddies.

There was as super consignment of British Friesian cows and heifers all with excellent robust traits and strong legs and feet.  The Williamson family from The Howes Farm sold two cows at £1750 and the Robinson family from Owlethirst Farm near Longtown sold four cows also topping at £1750.
