ARMANI TOPS AT £2400 FOR WREAYWOOD HERD
The November Borderway Monthly Dairy Day had a large consignment of highly productive animals on offer with most breeds represented. 340 animals changed hands topping at £2400 with 121 Holstein milking heifers averaging £1790: 44 animals sold for £2000 or more. Buyers from across the UK took part with almost 127 animals selling online.
The Wilson family from Woodside Farm sold 20 cows and heifers to average £2025 and topped at £2400 for Wreaywood Armani Kerry Red. She was one of the best uddered cows to sell through Borderway for some time, she was fresh in her second and was producing 50kgs
Richard Livingston from the Kirtlevale herd in Gretna sold a very attractive group of heifers and topped at £2200 for a daughter of Roylane Boxer Punch who was bred from a VG86 Shaker dam.
Tom Stewart from Sandyknowe Farm near Kelso sold 19 Holstein Friesian and Jersey cross heifers to average almost £1800 and topped at £2200 for an attractive heifer recently with a closet o perfect mammary.
Balcurvie Holstein sold fifteen heifers to average £1875 and topped at £2150 for a Lego daughter bred from a high yielding dam. A super udder Secretariat daughter from the same home sold for £2100.
British Friesians where in strong demand with 11 cows averaging almost £1900. The Williamson from the Howes Farm near Appleby sold 6 strong framed cows to average £2000 and topped at £2300 for a second lactation cow that could have won any British Friesian show in the UK.
The Pirie family from Backhill Farm near Aberdeen dispersed their Holstein herd and topped at £1900 for a cracking heifer sired by Gandhi and giving 38kgs
Jonny Wilson from Little Float farm near Stranraer dispersed his herd of Irish Friesian and Jersey cross bred cows topping at £2000 for a second calve cow and averaged £1527 for his freshly calved animals. 48 spring calving animals from this herd were in less demand and sold for less than expected topping £1150 on several occasions to average £600
In-calf heifers looked exceptional value for money compared to the previous months trading. They averaged just under £1200 for some well grown, balanced heifers. They topped at £1800 for an outstanding animal consigned by Ed. Wilson from Petteril Hill Farm. She was a Lighhouse daughter from the Espland herd.
There was a varied consignment of bulling heifers with stronger well grown heifers selling for over £1000 with frailer weathered types selling for under £500.
