Borderway Monthly Dairy Sale

8th January 2020

Happy New Year!

The first Borderway Monthly Dairy Day of the new decade started with a quality offering of freshly calved cows and heifers from many of the region’s leading dairy farms.  Trade peaked at £2050 on two occasions with the average price coming to £1586.  Demand for dairy cattle continues to be high and will do for the rest of the winter.

Regular consignor Richard Livingstone from Kirtlevale Farm near Gretna sold four outstanding heifers and topped the sale at £2050 for Kirtlevale Nolan Honey.  She was sired by Ri-Val Nolan and bred from a high yielding Lucente dam.  This fine consignment of heifers averaged £1800.

£2050 – Vendor RJ Livingstone

Selling for the joint top price of £2050 was a powerful heifer from the Todhunter family from Lonning Farm near Wigton.  This special consignment of heifers from Lonning Farm averaged £1975.

£2050 – Messrs Todhunter

Julianholme Cabriol Roza sold for £2000.  She was consigned by the Denwood family from Julian Holme Farm near Gosforth.  She was sired by Sandy-Valley Cabriol and was giving 38kgs.

Crossfell Holsteins from Kirby Thore near Penrith sold four heifers topping at £1880 for a very milky heifer giving 37kgs.

Balcurvie Holsteins from Fife sold sixteen well-bred and very productive heifers with serval heifers selling for £1850 including a daughter of Altacordial and one by Vieuxsaule Flame.

There was an excellent group of eleven Jersey cross bred cows consigned by Cowhill Trust Kerricks Farm from Dumfries.  These cows were all due in May & June and all were high butterfat & protein producers. They topped at £1500 for a strong third calver to average almost £1000.

The trade for British Friesian heifers was once again exceptional with four daughters of Whinnow Quantum.  Two sold for £1950 to average £1875 and all consigned by the Neil family from Thornington Farm in Northumberland.

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 22nd January comprising 150 freshly calved cows and heifers and includes a special reduction sale of the well-known Horseclose Pedigree Ayrshire herd.  An online version of this catalogue can be viewed at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be ordered from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230
