At Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 30th July, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of primestock. Slightly improved weather conditions meant a smaller show of 300 cattle comprising 210 cows, 70 bulls and 20 prime cattle.
Cast Cows & OTM Cattle – All classes met a sharper trade with both well fleshed and plain cows showing a great improvement on the week. Cows sold to a top of 206.5p/kg for a pure Limousin from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk bought by Mr John Little. A superb run of five pure Limousin cows from Messrs Sowerby, Sycamore Rise sold to 199.5p/kg (twice) and averaged 194.3p/kg or £1255.51. Stock bulls sold to £2116.53 and 175.5p/kg for a Limousin from Mr Telfer, Tarn Flatt Hall.

An entry of 2013 prime lambs was forward. Topping at £108.80 was a pair of Dutch Texel cross lambs from Messrs Storey, Woodland Farm and purchased by Mr J Mulholland Butchers, Great Orton. Topping at 241.6p/kg was a Dutch Texel cross lamb also from Messrs Storey, purchased by Andrew Dawson. Trade followed the national trend; being easier on last weeks high rates due to an increase in numbers forward. Well fleshed lambs were still good to sell.
