Borderway Primestock Sale

At Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 23rd July, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of primestock where a large show of 414 cows, bulls and prime cattle were forward.  

 

Cast Cows & OTM Cattle – 311 cows were forward with fleshed cows being good to sell but plainer types slightly cheaper on the week.  Mr Fishwick & Son, Thornship Farm, sold the top priced British Blue cow selling for 202.5p/kg bought by Mr Shaun McGimpsey.  Mr Bell, West Newton Hall, run of Limousin cows topped at 178.5p/kg to Cleveland Meats.  Messrs Murray & Sons, Prior House, run of cattle topped at 178.5p/kg for a British Blue bought by Mr John Little.  Messrs Carr & Son, Leesrigg Farm, sold the top priced Black and White cow for 143.5p/kg to Highland Meats.

Prime Bulls – A good show of 78 bulls were forward with trade being slightly dearer on the week.  Mr Keith Harryman, Keskadale, sold the top priced Limousin bull selling for 222.5p/kg bought by Mr John Robertson.  Mr Alastair Beattie Ltd, Glencairn, sold a British Blue bull for 218.5p/kg bought by Mr John Little.  Messrs Gibb, Jubilee Buildings, sold the top priced British Blonde bull selling for 216.5p/kg to Mr John Robertson.  Mr Brian Hall, Ainstable Hall, sold the top overall priced bull for 207.5p/kg at 908kg £1884 to Mr Shaun McGimpsey.

Prime Cattle – A small but quality show of prime cattle were forward.  Mr Fawcett, Silverhow Farm, sold the top priced Limousin cross heifer selling for 216.5p/kg to Mr Bill Howard.  Messrs Mitchell & Sons, Mirkbooths, run of heifers topped at 215.5p/kg bought by Mr Bill Howard.  Messrs Dodd, West View, sold the top priced Limousin cross bullock selling for 215.5p/kg to Pioneer Foods.

PRIME SHEEP

 

An entry of 1538 prime lambs and 188 cast ewes were forward with buyers bidding keenly for all classes.  Topping at £110.30 was a Texel cross lamb ram from Messrs Carruthers, Grassgarth purchased by Mr Robert Skelton.  Highest price per kilo was 227.1p, paid for a pair of Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Mitchinson, High Greenhill, purchased by Mr Andrew Dawson.  Heavier lambs once again in particularly strong demand.  Many more could have been sold.
