Cast Cows & OTM Cattle – A large show 356 cast cows and stock bulls were presented to the usual large ring side of buyers. A good show of 10 stock bulls were on offer with trade being as dearer as ever.
M/s DA Harrison, Hill House Farm sold an outstanding British Blue which sold for 1072kg, 202.5p, £2170 to Andrew Graham. M/s Gillespie, High Ploughlands also sold a blue stock bull for 1156kg, 171.5p, £1982 to Sean McGimpsey. M/s Dodd, Tundergarth Mains sold the top priced Limousin stock bull which sold for 1113kg, 165.5p, £1842 to Owain Llyr. M/s Harrison, Roundhill sold a Limousin stock bull for 927kg, 171.5p, £1589 to Sean McGimpsey

M/s Little, The Guards sold an outstanding Limousin cow which sold for 772kg, 204.5p, £1578 to M/s Worsley. M/s Harrison & Sons, Aikhead run of cows topped at 901kg, 158.5p, £1428 to Sean McGimpsey. M/s Robinson & Son, Gelt Hall Farm sold a Limousin x heifer for 204.5p to Sean McGimspey. M/s Wilson & Son, Bowscale Farm run of cows and heifers topped at 204.5p for a British blue x bought again by McGimpey.

An overall day’s top of £1866.23 was received by M/s Steel, The Laurels, Wigton with a Limousin x steer who was purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston, others sold to £1729.84 from M/s Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont and purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. British Blues to £1731.86 from M/s Nicholson, Gill Farm, Carlisle and again purchased by Pioneer foods. Top pence per kilo was a Limousin from M/s dent, Elm House, Appleby achieving 231.5p purchased by Bowland Foods. In the heifers a days top of £1551.55 was paid to M/s Dent, Elm House once again purchased by Bowland Foods and Limousins from the same home achieved £1423.70 and purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Top pence per kilo heifer was 238.50 from M/s Dixon, Low Whinnow, Carlisle and purchased by M/s Mulholland Butchers, Great Orton, Carlisle. More could have been sold.

Prime Hoggs – An increased entry of 1878 prime hoggs were forward and trade was nothing short of astronomical with returns at levels never seen before. The overall sale average was 297.8ppk (SQQ 303.97) £129.55 per head.
The sale topped at £167.80 for a pen of heavy Texel hoggs from Messrs Pigg, Gaitsgill, Dalston which sold to Mr R Skelton. Beltex hoggs topped per kilo at 366.6p for a pen of 7 consigned by Messrs Graham, Laws Hall, Longtown to Mr A Dawson. Messrs Irving, East Cliff, Kirklinton topped the Suffolks at £156.80 for a pen of 26 which came to 298.7ppk.
Cheviot hoggs sold to £143.30 for a pen of 30 from Messrs Wilson, Woodside, Wreay and to 330.9ppk for a pen of 32 from the same home.
