Cast Cows & OTM Cattle – A great bank holiday show of 195 cast cows were forward. Topping the sale was a wonderful Limousin cow from Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths selling to Pickstocks for 183.5ppk. Top price per head for beef cows came from Messrs Moffat, Stone House selling for £1389.25 to Dunbia UK.
Top pence per kilo dairy bred cow came from Messrs Morris, Greengatehouse Farm selling at 159.5ppk to Mr Fell. Top price per head from Messrs Baird, Red Hall selling a Holstein Friesian for a grant total of £1339.52 to Mr Kirkpatrick, Lockerbie.
A good show for a bank holiday send all vendors home delighted and many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage.

Prime Bulls – A smaller offering of prime bulls forward whereby all classes met a good demand and saw a day’s top of £1771 for a Simmental from Messrs Houldey, Kirktleton House, Lockerbie and purchased by Ralph Pearson Wholesale Butchers. Blonde crosses sold to £1453 from Messrs Jardine, The Yett purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston and Limousins to £1423 for Messrs Irving, Bectonhall. Messrs Jardine, The Yett sold overall pence per kilo of 227.5p for the aforementioned. Black and whites peaked at £1198 for a Friesian for Messrs Graham, Hillhead and purchased by Jewitt Meats, Spennymoor with a top pence per kilo of 184.5p for a Holstein Friesian from Messrs Jackson, Skelton Wood End more could have been sold.

British Blues peaked at £1662.38 for Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle and purchased by Pioneer Foods. Top overall pence per kilo was for a Limousin cross steer from Messrs C Nicholson, The Gill receiving 234.5ppk and purchased by Ralph Pearson Wholesale Butchers. Prime Sheep– The weekly sale of prime and cast sheep consisted of 800 prime hoggs, 270 spring lambs and 200 cast ewes. Spring lambs sold to a top of £134.80 for 3 single lots of Texels all consigned by Messrs Mounsey, Ashfield which sold to John Scott Meats, Paisley. Messrs Pearson, Wavercroft topped per kilo at 317p for an outstanding lamb which sold to Mr Robert Skelton. Best types regularly 280-300ppk with plainer and leaner types proving harder to sell. Hoggs met a positive enquiry with well fleshed sorts especially still in good demand, selling to a top of £110 for Texels from Messrs Dale-Sunley, Ross Farm to Mr Robert Skelton and a top per kilo of 240.5p for Texel hoggs from Mr J McCrone, Beechcroft. Ewes sold to £140 for a great Texel ewe from Messrs SJ Pigg, Gaitsgill.
