Cast Cows & OTM Cattle – A great show of 361 cast cows and stock bulls were forward, and were met by a flying trade for all classes. 157 beef cattle were forward and averaged 144ppk.
Judith Hunter, Bridge Mill sold an outstanding Charolais cow for 850kg, 178.5ppk or £1517 and to 1002kg, 149.5ppk or £1497. Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor run of Limousin cows topped at 929kg, 157.5ppk or £1463. Messrs Mathers, Beech Bank run of cows topped at 916kg, 159.5ppk or £1461 for a Limousin cross. Messrs DA Harrison, Hill House Farm run of well finished cows topped at 856kg, 168.5ppk or £1442 for a Limousin cross. Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown sold a British Blue cross cow for 791kg, 181.5ppk or £1435. Messrs Harrison, Grange Hall sold a British Blue cross cows for 766kg, 185.5ppk or £1420. Miss Sophie, Pinguey, high House sold a young Limousin cross cow for 205.5ppk. Messrs Cornthwaite, Balgray Hill sold two young cows for 193.5ppk for a Limousin cross and to 188.5ppk for a British Blue cross. Messrs Oliver, Cawfields sold a British Blue cross heifer for 185.5ppk. Messrs Johnstone & Sons, Low Flow sold a Limousin cross for 185.5ppk.
A great show of black and white cows were forward with 193 dairy cows averaging 113.4ppk. Messrs Mitchell & Sons, Mirkbooths sold the top priced Holstein cross cow, which sold for 910kg, 130.5ppk or £1187. Messrs Graves, Elephant Farm run of Holstein cross cows topped at 854kg, 134.5ppk or £1148. Messrs Haston, Dearham Hall sold a Holstein cross for 844kg, 135.5ppk or £1143. Messrs Willey, Broomfield Farm sold the top priced Montbeliarde cross cow for 772kg, 144.5ppk or £1115. Messrs Workman, The Beeches run of Montbeliarde cross cows topped at 758kg, 144.5ppk or £1095. Messrs Mandale & Son, Lambfield Farm sold the top priced Danish Red cow, which topped at 806kg, 135.5ppk or £1092.

Messrs Byers, Ellen Bank, Wigton sold top priced Charolais crosses and British Blue crosses to £1458.18 and to £1441.79. Aberdeen Angus sold to £1337.89 from Messrs Graham, Barnglies, Canonbie. Top pence per kilo of 224.5ppk was attained by Messrs Brought, Old Rectory, Carlisle for a Limousin and was purchased by Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax.
Black and whites topped at £1120 for a Holstein from Messrs Murray, Conheath, Dumfries and was purchased by Messrs Kirkpatrick, Lockerbie. Topping the pence per kilo in this section was Messrs Moscrop and Waugh, Albyfield, Carlisle attaining 169.5ppk.

PRIME CATTLE – A much larger show of 63 prime steers and heifers were forward, selling to a larger attendance of buyers resulting in a sharper trade being achieved for all classes. Top overall was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas, receiving £1618.65 and Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle sold another to £1615.86, both purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. British blues sold to £1611.93 from Messrs Anderson, Crosby House, Maryport, and Charolais to £1590.58 from Messrs Gate, Brackendene, Cockermouth. Top pence per kilo of 225.5ppk and 224.5ppk was received by Messrs Craik, Waterside.
Heifers again a highlight in the dale, and peaked at £1553.33 for a Limousin cross from Messrs DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton and to £1517.62 for another from the same home. Messrs Miller, West Farm, Carlisle sold the top priced British Blue cross to £1387.13 all purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Top overall pence per kilo came from a run of 12 from Messrs Anderson, Crosby House, attaining 235.5ppk and was purchased by David Whaite. Messrs Hewertson, Lords Close, Maryportsold another to 234.5ppk and was purchased by Brookwood Abattoir. British Blues sold to 218ppk from Messrs Miller, West Farm and again purchased by Brookwood Abattoir.

PRIME SHEEP– The weekly sale of prime sheep saw an entry of 261 spring lambs and 540 hoggs come forward. All classes of sheep were great to sell with all averages up 10ppk or more on the week.
Prime Lambs: Spring lambs sold to a top of £128.80 for an outstanding Texel cross from Messrs G Brough, Old Rectory Farm, Kirkbampton, which sold to Morgan Helliwell. Lightweight lambs were very dear, and sold to a top of 302.3ppk for a pair of 35kg Texel lambs from Messrs ML Fell, Harley Croft, Torpenhow, and was purchased by Mr R Skelton. The overall average was 261.59ppk (SQQ 265.62ppk)
