This outstanding animal was consigned by Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle who achieved £1656 and the top pence per kilo of 265.5p this was purchased by W Hall Butchers, Stranraer. Steers sold to £1625 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle and British Blue crosses to £1617 from Messrs Story, Newbiggin both purchased by Pioneer Foods Carlisle. PRIME SHEEP– On Monday 19th August Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of 2621 prime lambs along with 312 cast ewes. This week’s sale also included the anniversary show and sale which was kindly judged by Mr Martin McIntyre. Martin’s Champion pen were shown by Messrs Story, Limestone Cottage, Calthwaite with their first prize pen of Beltex x lambs which weighed 42.5kg and sold at £96 to Mr A Dawson.
Claiming the Reserve Championship was the 1st prize pen of Mule lambs from Messrs Browell, Quarry House, Hexham which weighed 50.5kg and sold at £87 a head to Mr R Skelton. The 1st prize single lamb was shown by Messrs Wigham, Hargill House, Haltwhistle this exceptional Dutch Texel weighed 50kgs and sold at £112 to Mr Morgan Helliwell. The sale topped at £114 for the 1st prize pen of AOB lambs again a beautiful pen of Dutch Texel lambs shown by Messrs Wigham, Hargill House this pen weighed 43kg and again sold to Morgan Helliwell. The 3rd prize single lamb from Messrs Little, The Hollands, Penton topped the days price per kilo table at 291.9p which sold to Mr R Skelton. A total of 2621 lambs were forward and averaged 182.5ppk, £80.18 per head leaving all vendors delighted with the day’s trade.
