PRIME SHEEP: A smaller show of 2269 head comprising of 2071 prime lambs and 198 cast sheep.
Topping the sale at £134 were a pen of 3, 54.5kg Texel cross lambs from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm and topping pence per kilo was a Texel cross from Messrs Pearson, High Plasket Lands at 285.9p. Mule lambs topped at £97.80, 224ppk, for a pen of 43.5kgs lambs from Messrs Carruthers, Peela Hill with Blackface lambs reaching a top of £104.80, 213.9p from Messrs Grieve, Whiteside.
Overall trade for all classes of lambs was very strong, much dearer than recently seen with the overall sale average 15ppk up on the week.

PRIME BULLS: A large entry of 91 prime bulls forward achieving the dearest trade for many a month, with a days overall top of £1829.10 for a Simmental from Messrs D Lowry, New Steadings, Lanark and purchased by Messrs Medcalf, Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax. Charolais sold to £1702.45 from Messrs Graham, Hillhead, Canonbie purchased by Michael Helliwell and Limousins sold to £1558.07 from Messrs Thompson, Townfoot, Penrith purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston. Top overall pence per kilo of 221.5p was attained by Messrs Little, The Guards, Carlisle with their Limousin cross.
Dairy bred bulls easiest sold this week with an overall top of £1240.70 achieved by Messrs Hewitson, King Hill, Brampton for a Friesian and was purchased by Jewitt Meats, Spennymoor, top overall pence per kilo of 190.5p was attained by Messrs Moscrop & Waugh, Aitchisons Bank, Gretna for their Fleckvieh with Friesians from Messrs Mattocks, Aulby, Penrith receiving 179.5p.

PRIME CATTLE: A small show of only 36 prime steers and heifers forward selling to the same good trade to that of last week. Top overall was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle achieving £1666.05, Messrs Nicholsons run of 6 steers averaged £1616. Steers sold to 222.5ppk for another Limousin cross from Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle purchased by Messrs Medcalf, Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax.
Heifers also short of requirements and were seen to top at £1663.81 from Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont purchased by Pioneer Foods. This same vendor also sold the top priced Charolais cross to £1532.78 and again purchased by Pioneer Foods. Top overall pence per kilo of 225.5p was paid to Messrs Story, Newbiggin for their quality heifer and was purchased by Black Brow Abattoir, Wigton. More could have been sold, please advise entries.

Messrs Siddle, Honeypot sold the top priced Aberdeen Angus cow for 956kg, 166.5p, £1591 to Charles Kirkpatrick.
