PRIME SHEEP: An increased number of all classes were a sharper trade throughout, a sale average of 225.5p SQQ 226.9 was achieved which equates to £96.72 a head putting Borderway firmly at the top of the standings for todays trading.  174 lots sold at £100 or more to a top of £134 for an incredible 38kg Beltex x lamb from Adam & Amy Bell, Thethwaite, Dalston which equates to 352.6ppk and sees them claim the top spot again this week.

Heavies met a ready trade throughout, these topped out at £131.80 for a single Texel x sold by Messrs Huddleston, Round Meadows, Hexham.  Mule lambs topped at £99 (212.9p) for a great pen from Messrs Hope, Albierigg, Canonbie.  Many more sheep of all classes could have been handled with ease with 25 outlets operating today!

At Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 10th August Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of Primestock where a great show of 380 Cast Cows, Bulls and Prime cattle were forward.

PRIME BULLS: A similar entry of 79 prime bulls forward resulting in a better trade to that of last week.  Top overall was a Simmental from Messrs Goldie, Newbie Mains, Annan peaking at £1570.77 purchased by Alan Jarvis.  Limousins sold to £1564 from Messrs Anderson, Crosby House, Maryport purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston.  British Blue crosses to £1411.51 from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton purchased by Michael Helliwell, Rochdale.

Top pence per kilo continental was a Limousin from Messrs Horn, Lower Griseburn, Appleby and Messrs Anderson, Crosby House, Maryport both receiving 224.5p purchased by Alan Jarvis and Bowland Foods.

Dairy bred bulls sharper also on the week and were seen to peak at £1113.87 for a Montbeliarde from Messrs Mitchinson, Beckstones, Carlisle purchased by Jewitt Meats with Friesians to £1083 from Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Carlisle.  Top pence per kilo of 178.5p was paid to Messrs Mitchinson for the aforementioned Montbeliarde and 169.5p for a Friesian from Messrs Graham, South Lambhill.

PRIME CATTLE: A very small show of 32 prime steers and heifers forward achieving one of the better trades seen for a long time resulting in a days top of £1639.17 for a superb British Blue cross steer from Messrs Barnett, Brinns, Penrith purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle; Messrs Barnett also sold top priced pence per kilo steer of 242.5p for a Limousin cross and 233.5p for their British Blue cross.

Heifers were well short of requirements but seen to peak at an overall top pence per kilo of 246.5p for a Limousin cross from the Brinns Farm and this was purchased by Owain Llyr, Ruthin and equated to £1417.38.  More are required urgently on a weekly basis, please do not hesitate to call Grant Anderson for any information.

CAST COWS & OTM CATTLE: Once again a large show of 281 cast cows and stock bulls were forward with all classes of cows being in great demand.

Messrs Wainwright, Todd Hall run of cows sold to a top price of 948kg, 221.5p, £2099 bought by Charles Kirkpatrick and 875kg, 223.5p, £1955 and 761kg, 235.5p, £1792 for British Blue cows both bought by David Holmes.  Messrs MacDonald, Light Birks, Hexham sold British Blue cows for 728kg, 207.5p, £1510 and 648kg, 197.5p, £1279 to Owain Llyr.  Messrs Wainwright, Todd Hall sold two Aberdeen Angus cows for 826kg, 167.5p, £1383 and 813kg, 169.5p, £1378 both bought by Jewitt Meats.  Messrs Corlett, Skiddaw View sold the top priced Limousin cross cow for 690kg, 187.5p, £1293 to Owain Llyr.  Messrs Bradley, Marina House run of Parthenais cows topped at 655kg, 186.5p, £1221 and 610kg, 188.5p, £1149 both purchased by Owain Llyr.

All classes of black and white cows were in great demand, Messrs Dart & Son, Flothers sold a run of Friesian cows and young heifers for 816kg, 147.5p, £1203 and 668kg, 165.5p, £1105 bought by James Gracey and Les Fell.  Messrs Clark, Whins sold a Friesian cow for 872kg, 133.5p, £1164 to Dovecote Park.  Messrs Moore, Brayshaw run of cows topped at 688kg, 166.5p, £1145 for a Montbeliarde cross bought by Les Fell.  Messrs Moscrop & Waugh, Alby Field run of cows topped at 634kg, 174.5p, £1106 to Les Fell.  Messrs Threlkeld, Bailey Town run of cows topped at 664kg, 166.5p, £1105 for a Norwegian Red to Sean McGimpsey.
