Borderway Sale of Store & Weanling Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1029 head at their weekly Wednesday sale comprising of 658 store cattle, unentered store bulls and stirks, 219 calves and 152 Dairy cattle in the Monthly Border and Lakeland Sale.  Trade in all the rings saw much improvement compared to previous weeks.

STORE CATTLE – A good number of store cattle forward and although a plainer show was on offer a sharper trade was witnessed with a large ring side of bidders in attendance. Top overall was £1195 for a British Blue bullock shown by I & L Beaty, Durdar Farm, Carlisle.  Topping the heifer section was J Weal & Son, Birkshawhead, Lockerbie for a Limousin x heifer achieving £1105.  Charolais bullocks topped at £1165 from S Routledge, Old Silloth Farm, Wigton and Angus bullocks sold to £1120 from K Story, Blackrigg, Longtown.  Many more could have been sold.

WEANED CATTLE: A very similar show of 208 weaned cattle were forward even with vendors taking advantage of the fine spell of weather.   Trade proved much dearer on the week seeing all classes of cattle much sharper on the week.

Trade was topped at £1430 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside with others to £1190.  A run of 10 Charolais x and Limousin x bulls from Messrs Dale, Airds of Balcary, Auchencairn averaging at five and a half months old going on to sell for an average of £738.  Many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.
