Borderway Sale of Store & Weanling Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had 1139 head at their Weekly Wednesday Sale, comprising of 802 Store Cattle,  Bulls and Stirks,  282 Calves and 55 dairy bulls in the Annual Spring Bull Show and Sale.  All rings had a good company of buyers with trade buoyant in all the rings.

STORE CATTLE – A much larger entry of 566 big store cattle whereby the very biggest and smaller grazing cattle were very dear and well bid for.  Top price of the day was £1370 achieved twice, firstly by Nathan Donald, Lamonby Hall, Penrith for a Limousin steer and same price achieved by Messrs Potts, Chapel House with a Limousin cross heifer.  British Blue steers peaked at £1290 from Messrs Gibson, Cocklet Hill, Carlisle.  Simmentals to £1280 from Messrs Crayston, Sheepfields, Seascale.  Charolais to £1270 from Messrs Thompson, Wood Head, Carlisle and Aberdeen Angus to £1240 from Messrs Nixon, Ribton House, Workington,

British Blue heifers peaked at £1285 from Messrs Haston, Dearham Hall, Maryport.  Charolais to £1280 from Messrs Lloyd, Fishergill, Wighton.  Simmentals to £1180 from Messrs Crayston, Sheepfields, Seascale and Aberdeen Angus to £1170 for a pen of five from Messrs Hughes, Silver Lea, Carlisle.

Finally black and whites peaked at £1025 from Messrs Scott, Carrick Dean, Maryport and £1070 from Messrs Harrison, Wickerfield, Penrith.

Many more are required on a weekly basis with a huge demand evident around the ringside.

WEANERS- A larger show of weaned calves forward with trade much sharper on the week with signs of Spring just around the corner.  Topping the sale was a Limousin x steer from Messrs Crichton, 4 Nether Locharwoods, Dumfries peaking at £1145 selling to Messrs Donaldson, Hazel House, York.  Trade and demand looks promising for next week and are expecting a good entry of cattle.
