Borderway Sale of Store & Weanling Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1029 head at their Weekly Wednesday Sale of Cattle at Borderway, comprising of 788 Catalogued Store cattle and Un-entered Stirks and 245 Calves.  A larger entry of cattle forward this week and on the whole trade was sharper in all the sale rings.

STORE CATTLE –  A marvellous entry of 532 store cattle forward with all classes looking to sell sharper on the week.  Top overall was a British Blue cross steer from Messrs Johnstone, Westray Farm, Cockermouth achieving a day’s top of £1455.  Messrs Beaty, Durdar, Carlisle sold another to £1400.  Westray Farm also sold the top priced Limousin and Charolais crosses to £1300 each.  In the heifer section top overall was a Blonde cross from Messrs Robson, Merryshield, Newcastle receiving £1275 and the  same good vendors also topped British Blues at £1255. Messrs Faulder, Croft House, Cockermouth sold top Limousin to £1250.  More could have been sold, please forward entries for next week’s weekly sale.

WEANERS –  A large show of 256 weanlings were forward with a good ring side of buyers.  Messrs Park, Cragg House Farm sold a Limousin bullock for £1000.  Messrs Beaty, Stonewalls sold a Limousin x bull for £930 and Mr Dale, Airds of Balcary run of 5-7 bull stirks sold to a top of £910 and £900 at 5-7 months of age.
