Borderway Sale of Store & Weanling Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1001 head at their Weekly Wednesday Sale of Cattle at Borderway, comprising of 710 Catalogued Store cattle and Un-entered Stirks and 291 Calves. Another good entry of cattle was forward with plenty of buyers in attendance.

STORE CATTLE – Once again another huge entry of store cattle were forward to the weekly sale, whereby a similar trade to that of last week was seen.

Top overall was a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Roe, Croft House, Carlisle receiving £1325, and to £1290 from Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith. Blondes sold to £1230 also from Messrs Bowman. British Blues sold to £1175 from Messrs Gardhouse, Aikton, Wigton and Charolais to £1155 from Messrs Hunter, Berrier Head, Penrith.

Steers sold to a top of £1300 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Holliday, Broathill, Lockerbie, and to £1275 for a Limousin cross from Messrs McFadden, Shawhill, Lockerbie. Charolais sold to £1255 from Messrs Neve, Riggfoot Farm, Brampton, and Aberdeen Angus crosses sold to £1185 for two from Messrs Holliday, High Bow, Carlisle.

WEANERS – A good show of 251 stirks were forward with extra buyers which ensured that all classes would be slightly dearer on the week. Messrs Wigham, Hargill House sold two Limousin bulls for £1160 and £1065. Messrs Mews, Glendue Farm, Hexham sold two Limousin bulls for £1140 and £1095 and Messrs Elwen, New Pallyands sold a Limousin bull for £1100. Messrs Cowx & Son, Hudscales sold a 12 months old Limousin cross bullock and heifer for £900.
